Boom Lifts
Articulated and telescopic boom platforms used for elevated access.
UK Lift Inspection Services carries out independent inspections across a range of mobile elevating work platforms and access equipment used in commercial, industrial, construction and property environments.
Our inspection scope includes boom lifts, cherry pickers, scissor lifts, BMUs, suspended cradles and window-cleaning baskets. Where equipment is used to lift people, LOLER thorough-examination requirements will commonly apply.
Whether you manage one machine or equipment across multiple sites, we provide clear written findings and straightforward guidance on any defects, deterioration or action that may be required.
Tell us what access equipment you have, where it is located and when it was last examined and we can discuss the appropriate inspection requirements.
A MEWP inspection assesses the condition of the platform and its safety-critical components to identify defects, deterioration or other issues that could affect safe continued use.
For MEWPs used to lift people, this will commonly include a LOLER thorough examination carried out by a competent person and followed by a written report of the findings.
The extent of the examination depends on the machine, how it is used and its condition. It should consider the components and systems that can affect the safe lifting of people and the continued safe operation of the equipment.
We inspect a range of powered and suspended access equipment used for working at height across commercial, industrial and property environments.

MEWPs commonly used for temporary access to elevated working areas.
Vertical access platforms used across warehouses, construction sites and commercial premises.
Building maintenance units used for external building access and maintenance.
Suspended access systems used for façade, maintenance and inspection work.
Suspended baskets and access equipment used for high-level window and façade work.
Provide the MEWP or access-equipment type, location and any available examination or maintenance history.
We review the equipment information and establish the appropriate inspection or thorough examination.
The relevant equipment and safety-critical components are examined for condition, deterioration and defects.
You receive written documentation recording the examination, findings and any action that may be required.
MEWPs used to lift people must generally receive a LOLER thorough examination at least every 6 months, unless a competent person specifies a different interval through a written examination scheme.
This thorough examination is separate from normal pre-use checks, servicing and routine maintenance. HSE recommends a programme of daily visual checks, regular inspections and servicing in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and the risks associated with the machine.
Additional examination may also be required following exceptional circumstances that could affect equipment safety, such as significant damage, major changes or prolonged periods out of use.
Tell us what equipment you have, how it is being used and where it is located. We can discuss the inspection requirement and help arrange the appropriate examination.
Daily checks, maintenance and LOLER thorough examinations each serve a different purpose.
Operators should carry out appropriate pre-use checks and report defects, while routine servicing helps keep the machine maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s requirements.
A thorough examination is a separate, detailed assessment carried out by a competent person to determine whether the lifting equipment remains safe for continued use.
Following the examination, a written report records the findings, including relevant defects and the date by which the next thorough examination is due.
